Manga for Grownups

The tagline says “Manga for adults,” and indeed it is, but there’s plenty of story about the traditional dose of sex. This monthly magazine collects and serializes manga tales first published in Japan, translated into English for an American audience. Stories, focusing on everything from crime wars to romance to relationships with ghostly ancestors, often run for many months at a time, but each chapter of each series begins with a “Our story thus far…” synopsis that brings the reader up to speed. There are anywhere from five to seven different tales going on at any one time.

Creators have included Akimi Yoshida, Naoki Yamamoto, and Masahiko Kikuni, among others. Issues also feature text, including reviews and columns covering Japanese pop culture—music, literature, and more. This black-and-white magazine is published by Viz Communications.
