Walt Disney’s Christmas Treasury
(Abbeville, 1978)
Like Christmas itself, the world Walt Disney created gives joy to the entire family. Disney always marked the holiday season with the release of a new film or a revival of a cartoon favorite. Traditionally, toys, books, and games based on Disney characters, and stories created especially for Christmas, have brought the Disney world into the home, like beloved old friends.
That special Disney Christmas world has been re-created in Walt Disney's Christmas Treasury. This lavishly-illustrated book contains comic-book stories such as "Special Delivery," featuring Mickey Mouse and Goofy, and "A Christmas for Shacktown," with Donald Duck, Donald's nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, and Donald's miserly Uncle Scrooge. Disney's films are represented by photographs rom his memorable version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, peopled with Disney's own characters, and his early The Night Before Christmas.
Other favorite characters appear here as well, all in Christmas stories or settings; Robin Hood celebrates Christmas in old English style; Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and the villanous Captain Hook engage in a Christmas adventure; The Seven Dwarfs create an assembly-line Santa's toy shop; Chip 'n' Dale struggle with their topsy-turvy Christmas tree; and Pluto gets an unwanted gift from Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
Winnie the Pooh takes us on a world tour of Christmas in other lands, guiding us through holiday celebrations in Mexico, Holland, German, Sweden, Spain, and Italy.
An unusual holiday treat are the Christmas cards sent by the Disney Studio to friends in the motion-picture industry. Made by his finest illustrators, working under Walt Disney's personal supervision, these cards have never been seen before by the public.
WQe are invited to participate in Walt Disney's Christmas in a special selection fo Christmas songs--words and music are included. Pages of games and puzzles invite teh whole family to participate in Christmas fun.
And finally, out of the world of fantasy-made-real, holiday festivities in Disneyland and Walt Disney World are shown with the liveliness of a star twinkling atop a Christmas tree. Reviving happy memories of the past and creating memories for the future, Walt Disney's Christmas Trasury is a glorious gift for the young in heart of all ages.
