The rotund, orange tabby had seen better days when featured in its own 1980s cartoon show. In the cartoon and the daily comic strip, Heathcliff acted as the neighborhood scourge stealing fish from the market and tossing garbage cans. For whatever reason, character foils such as Spike, the neighborhood bulldog, the wary garbage collector, the ever-vigilant fish vendor and the lovelorn Crazy Shirley are notably absent. In addition, one doesn’t sense Heathcliff’s wise-guy attitude present in a single panel. Heathcliff, what have they done to you?
