Xiola is an anthology title showcasing the talents of creators Josh Gorchov, Will Elder-Groebe, and Joel Emslie. It’s an ambitious offering from little-known Xero Comics, an independent publisher.

Each issue brings a new episode from the three major features. These span an impressively wide range of genres and styles. First off is the slightly surreal fantasy found in Josh Gorchov’s Django, a story reminiscent of the animated movie Wizards. Next is the Tolkienesque story of the demon Azhbane by Will Elder-Groebe. The final feature is Joel Emslie’s manga-inspired, science-fiction tale “To Move the Shadow.” While all have their limitations in terms of plotting, they feature uniformly good artwork and promising story ideas.
