Naked Eye (S.A. King’s…)
(Antarctic, 1994-1995)
™ and © 1995 Antarctic Press
Due in no small part to publishing might of Antarctic Press, cartoonist and social satirist S.A. King’s self-published, three issue mini-series Naked Eye is able to reach the comic book masses. Based on his mini-comic of the same name, the numerous strips contained within the black and white title are what the creator calls “director’s cuts” of his earlier works.
Most of the strips provide funny, thought-provoking snippets from the creator’s life (i.e. “Manta Ray Country” and “The Most Unforgettable Characters I’ve Ever Met On Public Transportation”). But perhaps the most interesting installment is the issue long final story that provides readers insight into how King became the man he is today. What makes this title such an enjoyable read is the fact that most every reader can identify with a majority of its stories. After all, doesn’t everyone have a great “I met the weirdest guy on the bus” story?
