Game Boy

™ and © 1990 Voyager Communications, Inc. and Nintendo of America, Inc.

Published during the late Valiant Comics’ partnership with Nintendo, “Game Boy” imagines the main characters of the Game Boy system alive and well in our world and yet still stuck in their duo-tone mentalities. In issue #1, for instance, Mario fights Tatanga for Princess Daisy’s hand in the World Trade Center using his trademark penchant for hitting bricks and finding secret starmen, even though he’s not in the Game Boy universe any longer.

Like some of the other titles in the partnership (Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Captain N: the Game Master), Game Boy is aimed mostly at younger fans of the game system. With featured art from well-known artists, it’s not such a longshot for older comic aficionados to take some glee in them also.
