Peter Pan (Walt Disney’s…)
(Disney)
™ and ©1953, 1958 Walt Disney Productions
“All children, except one, grow up.” Thus begins a great classic of children’s literature that most adults remember as magical. What have been forgotten are the wit, sophistication and eccentricity of Sir James M. Barrie’s original version because the tale of Peter Pan and Never Land has been relentlessly watered down, chopped up, and double dipped in saccharine. Barrie first wrote about Peter Pan in 1902. Two years later the stage play Peter Pan‚ or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up‚ would capture the public’s imagination and earn the character a permanent place in children’s mythology. Also, it began a theater tradition with few notable exceptions of an actress portraying Peter Pan. Anyone that has dreamed of revisiting the carefree days of childhood can identify with Peter Pan as he guides us on a magical flight past “the second star to the right, and straight on ’til morning.”
