The Adventures of Rex the Wonder Dog
(DC, 1952-1959)
™ and ©1955 DC Comics
Rex is super strong, fast, and intelligent—the textbook definition of a wonder dog. Rex’s origin is straight out of an issue of Captain America. Used as a test subject for a secret super-soldier formula, Rex was granted abilities far beyond those of an ordinary K-9. Putting those skills to good use, Rex fought in WWII and the Korean War, as well as solving mysteries and stopping crimes with his owner, young Danny Dennis.
Early issues of the series showcase artwork from two of the Silver Age’s most renowned artists: Carmine Infantino and Gil Kane. Also featured in each book are interesting animal facts as well as guest backup features of other animal stars, such as Detective Chimp.
