Coneheads

™ and © 1994 Marvel Characters, Inc.

This mini-series picks up where events left off in the 1993 comedy film of the same name, starring Dan Ackroyd and Jane Curtin (reprising their roles as Beldar and Prymaat, cranially challenged aliens who first appeared in the 1970s series of skits on NBC television’s Saturday Night Live).

Having saved their adoptive planet Earth from invasion by deceiving their warlike brethren (as detailed in the movie), Beldar, Prymaat and teenage daughter Connie return to their lives as “inconspicuous” suburbanites. But back on Remulak, the Conehead homeworld, the Remulakan High Master has discovered Beldar’s deception and plans another full-scale assault on earth. Can the Conehead family prevail—or will this new threat ruin their summer vacation in France?

Anyone who enjoyed the film or the SNL skits should appreciate Terry Collins’ (Looney Tunes) work here, whose writing preserves the Coneheads’ oddball, uproarious dialogue. Meanwhile, artist Tom Richmond, known outside comics as a caricaturist, renders characters that genuinely resemble the real-life stars.
