Catwoman: The Life and Times of a Feline Fatale
(Chronicle, 2003)
Catwoman, Gotham City’s resident Princess of Plunder, has been at once tormenting and tantalizing the Dark Knight since her first appearance as a jewel thief called the Cat in Batman #1 in 1940. Since then, she has gone through as many background and personality changes as she has feline–inspired costumes. This handy–dandy little reference book from author Suzan Colon chronicles the many incarnations of Catwoman and features artwork by the likes of Dick Sprang, Jerry Robinson, Kurt Schaffenberger, David Mazzucchelli, J.J. Birch, and Bruce Timm, as well as Darwyn Cooke’s character design sketchbook and photos of Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt, and Michelle Pfeiffer as the Feline Fatale. This book is a nice companion to Art Spiegelman and Chip Kidd’s Jack Cole and Plastic Man: Forms Stretched to Their Limits.
