Classic Star Wars: The Early Adventures

In addition to being a real blockbuster as a movie, Star Wars spawned a successful comic book series for Marvel as well as a daily newspaper comic strip. That original black-and-white strip featured the work of Al Williamson and Archie Goodwin, and was later colorized and edited to form Dark Horse Comics’ Classic Star Wars. Now the later strip work by Russ Manning is collected for Classic Star Wars: The Early Adventures.

Manning sends the young Jedi knight Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and ’droids R2D2 and C3PO off on some of their most memorable adventures. It all kicks off as the heroes set off to Vorzyd 5, the Gamblers’ World, to try to put an end to a major source of the Empire’s funding. Instead, they are quickly captured by Darth Vader’s storm troopers. Once in his grasp, Vader plans to torture them until they reveal the name of their contact in the Rebellion so he can crush it once and for all.
