Donald Duck (Walt Disney’s…)
(Dell, 1952-1990, 1993-1998)
™ and © Walt Disney
Donald Duck is one of Walt Disney’s most memorable and beloved creations. He first appeared in the 1934 animated short, The Wise Little Hen, where his lisping voice was said to have been inspired by a real-life Disney producer (who never caught on to the “homage” being paid him!). From there he went on to star in numerous cartoons and comic strips. This solo series grew out of his earlier appearances in Four Color Comics.
For many readers, the real star of this comic was the “good duck artist” Carl Barks. Barks held a special affinity for Donald and his friends, leading to a lifelong career drawing them. His work appears throughout this series, as well as in Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories and other Disney titles. Although his work was uncredited in the stories themselves, it’s recognizable by its sheer quality, as well as the vivid imagination and playfulness Barks brought to the series.
