New Age Comics

In the mid-1980’s, the comics world was monopolized by the “Big Two” publishers, DC and Marvel. Alternative story ideas were hard to find, and the ones that did make it to publication often had a very short life span. The long-term success of companies like Dark Horse, Image, and others finally opened the doors for “underground” publishers, greatly increasing the opportunities for new artists and writers, bringing their work to the attention of mainstream readers.

New Age Comics was a cooperative endeavor among several alternative publishers to expose potential new readers to as many of their books as possible. Basically, it was a book-length advertisement, with each company responsible for the production of their own section, which featured art, upcoming storylines, interviews, and other news about their comics.

Some of the more notable companies involved included WaRP Graphics, Kitchen Sink, Blackthorne, Rip-Off Press, and Sirius Comics.
