Domestic production has corrupted the Earth. Phen, relentless ruler of a totalitarian empire, fights a terrorist cell known as Jacob’s Gate, even as he seeks the messianic One Percenter, the person destined to unlock man’s destiny and free it from the yoke of oppression. Caught in the middle of this struggle for balance is Maya, who may just be that one percenter. Phen sends his minions out to find the lovely girl. Her only salvation is the dangerous and enigmatic Whisper, an assassin of the highest order, who will stop at nothing to keep her from Phen, even if it means taking her life himself. Writer and artist Mat Broome dishes up a sci-fi saga that tries to be epic in scope, but is at times a bit hard to follow. His art is beautiful and shows the influence of Frank Miller (Ronin, Sin City), but lacks Miller’s cinematic ability to tell a story visually. Still, it’s a promising work.
