Weird Science (E.C.)
(E.C., 1950-1953)
™ and © William M. Gaines, Agent
Series continued from Saddle Romances (cover of #1 reads #12, a continuation of Saddle Romance’s numbering)
Having begun its life as Saddle Romances, this series changed names and themes in 1950 to become Weird Science. Its sister publication, Weird Fantasy, was started at the same time.
Featuring classic Wally Wood, Al Williamson, and Frank Frazetta art, Weird Science went on to become one of the most highly regarded science-fiction titles of all time. Its stories were heavy with alien civilizations, robots, dinosaurs, and monsters in the shape of humans (and vice versa). It also included humorous science-fantasy pieces like “Miscalculation,” whereupon a man somehow receives a parcel from the year 2952. Inside is a “De Lux Personal Harem Kit”—five girls, just add the right amount of water and sodium chloride. The trick is that units of measure have changed in the future—and the man gets unintended results! This “build your own woman” theme was repeated in the 1980s movie “Weird Science.”
