Trickster King Monkey is based on a 16th century Chinese folk story by Wu Ch’eng-en and tells the story of a monkey born from a stone on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit on the island of Ao-lai. He is chosen to be king of the monkeys and soon embarks on a quest to discover the key to immortality. His travels take him all over the world and along the way he studies with the immortal master Subodhi, visits the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea, and enters the Land of Darkness where he encounters Yama, King of Death.

Filled with wonder and high-flying martial arts action, this story proves that comics can be more than simply a medium for telling tales of super-heroes. Comics can be used to educate us about various cultural myths and provide unique opportunities to read classic tales from around the world.
