Dead Folks (Lansdale and Truman’s…)

    (Avatar, 2003-2004)

After a biological agent capable of re–animating the dead escapes from a laboratory in upstate New York, the world was remade in George Romero’s image. Unstoppable zombies inhabit the planet and society has adapted to their repellent presence. So much so that some taverns cater to a portion of the population that thinks zombie prostitutes are a desirable alternative. Wayne is a bounty hunter on a mission to bring in Calhoun, a killer and child rapist who is living it up at one of those bars called Rosalita’s across the Mexican border. But bringing him in becomes more than a standard job when they run into Brother Lazarus and his Traveling Revival Show.

Slack-jawed zombies, women dressed in very abbreviated nun habits, and a tough as nails bounty hunter are the elements of this trade paperback from Avatar Press. Artist Tim Truman adapted this story from his frequent collaborator, Joe Lansdale. The team produced the well–received Jonah Hex mini–series, Two-Gun Mojo, Riders of the Worm and Such and Shadows West.

Lansdale’s story originally appeared in a zombie story collection called Book of the Dead.
