Fleer’s Ultra X-Men trading cards won many fans for the way they brought the X-Men characters to life with lush artwork. By 1995, Marvel had become the owner of Fleer, further tightening the connection between their comic characters and the trading cards that featured them. As a result, it was not surprising that Marvel would preview the third series of Fleer Ultra X-Men cards in this comic book special.

The third series of Ultra X-Men cards features artwork by Joe, Adam, and Andy Kubert, a virtual dynasty of great comic artists. Their illustrations encompass the various X-Men, along with striking portraits of the members of X-Factor, Excalibur, X-Force, and Generation-X. For good measure, they also included paintings of notable X-Men adversaries such as Holocaust and Mojo.
