Fighting American (Harvey)
(Harvey, 1966)
©1966, 1954 Harvey Features Syndicate
Johnny Flagg had been a war hero, but was wounded in the fight for freedom. Afterward, he became a newscaster for the Voice of Freedom show, using this platform to put Americans on guard against various foreign agents and Communists. Inevitably, one of these enemies finally caught up to Johnny and put four bullet holes in him.
As Johnny lay dying, members of the government appealed to his brother, Nelson Flagg, to take part in a daring experiment. Nelson would have his consciousness transferred into the rebuilt and strengthened body of his brother. From that day forth, Nelson Flagg would become Johnny Flagg, and also the Fighting American, a red, white, and blue battler of Communists and criminals.
Originally created in 1954 by Captain America founders Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, this 1966 special collects many of the Fighting American’s cold war adventures.
