Superman/Batman

The Superman-Batman team has always been a marriage of convenient commerce. Two Super Friends with nothing in common stayed together for the sake of the comics—the result being decades of really dull stories. Then they “broke up” under the editorial mandate that they were too different to be friends, ignoring the fact that friction generates heat.

Which is the case here, in a story that stresses their differences while it shows how their talents can complement each other (happily, for once, Superman gives as well as he gets from Batman), as they pursue a mystery that has grave implications for the entire DC universe. It’s hard to believe it took this long for DC to figure out that the best way to create great Superman-Batman stories was to have the best possible Superman with the best possible Batman, done by the best possible team. (Along with being smart and funny, it’s also beautiful.) Here’s another DC comic book that deserves to be an instant sellout.
