Three graphic novels (The Pitt, The Draft, and The War) laid out storylines which transformed Marvel’s New Universe. Following the devastation of the Pittsburgh, the Selective Service Act is reinstated to gather a fighting force in the event of war. Even the military had realized that the Pittsburgh blast had not been caused by foreign terrorists, but by paranormals. To the military, the best defense was to draft their own force of paranormals.

Keith (Nightmask) Remsen’s job was to test these soldiers and determine their fitness for such duty. But even Nightmask couldn’t have anticipated the effect of the draft on the young student Harlan Mook, codenamed Blowout. Highly ordered in his outer appearance, underneath he was literally an explosion waiting to happen. And when Mook snapped, the explosion would be directed at the President himself!
