Cyntherita
(Side Show, 1992)
©1992 Jim Ridings
The title character of this series is a very smart little girl with a highly developed imagination. This is encouraged by her father, Al Gonquin, whose crushingly boring day job is to put the little plastic pieces on shoelaces. As a result, he has also developed a rich fantasy life, and is fond of regaling his little girl Cyntherita with his imaginary adventures.
The mother, Eleanor Gonquin, is a level-headed sort who somehow manages to tolerate all the silliness in her house. She grabs the spotlight in the latter part of the book as she goes through all the amusing (and not-so-amusing) tribulations of bringing Cyntherita’s new little sister into the world.
Cyntherita is fun in an innocent, good-natured vein. It was created by Chicago area cartoonist Jim Ridings (Cheese Weasel, The Fatt Family).
