Koolau the Leper (Jack London’s…)
(Tome, 1991)
™ and ©1991 Charles Yates
Koolau could be the only man of honor left in Hawaii. He doesn’t break the laws of God or man unless he has no choice, he only wants to be left alone. When Chinese slaves brought leprosy to Hawaii, the white man put the lepers together in camps, against their will. Koolau and his group are next, but Koolau is not going. When the sheriffs and soldiers come to get him, he warns them many times before shooting them dead to protect himself and his fellow lepers. Through the years, he faces manhunts, betrayal from his own people, and the deterioration of his body. However, he never gives up his struggle to remain free.
Lovingly adapted from the short story by Jack London, this comic tells the tale of a warrior who refused to live life any way but his own.
