Nobody seems to know where the Theta Virus comes from, but many know what it does. It radically affects the human DNA structure, causing strange mutations. Left to run its course, it is uniformly fatal. Nevertheless, the people infected with it are known as “Potentials”—for if the mutations were somehow harnessed, it might be possible to turn the Theta victims into something more than human.

The Exiles are a super-powered group led by Dr. Rachel Deming. Their task is to find youngsters who have been infected by the Theta virus and try to save them. As it turns out, these victims need saving from more than the virus, for there are powerful forces in the world that rather like the idea of raising an army of super-powered soldiers—and they won’t let a little bloodshed get in the way of achieving that goal.
