DC Millennium Editions appeared throughout 2000, reprinting key issues from the 65-year history of DC comics in their entirety. All-Star Comics #3 from winter, 1940 is probably one of the half-dozen most important comics ever published, introducing the concept of the super-hero team. All-Star #3 presents the first meeting of the Justice Society of America (JSA), featuring a line-up of the golden age greats: Atom, Sandman, Spectre, Flash, Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Green Lantern, Hourman and Johnny Thunder (plus a cameo by the humorous Red Tornado). The heroes gather to tell stories of their latest adventures—a format which allowed each character to be featured in a solo story. The actual team would not spring into action until the next issue. The JSA concept captured readers’ imaginations and the line-up, with various modifications, survives to the present day.
