For years, readers of Fathom have wondered about Killian: where does he come from, why does he act the way he does, and why does he hate mankind so intensely? Michael Turner answers these questions in Killian’s Tide.

When the hidden underwater capital city of Marielle was destroyed by early hydrogen bomb testing, those who dwell beneath the waves must decide if they should continue their policy of observing the surface dwellers or go to the opposite extreme and attack in retaliation. Young Killian is not happy with the result of the vote—the more pacifist decision— and instead creates his own vengeful forces. He begins by leading a terrorist attack against a surface power station, so starting a life of hate and destruction that will even bring him up against those who love him.
