By 2033, the world has become a wasteland, worn out by overpopulation, ecological devastation, disease, and famine. Bands of heavily armed scavengers roam the world outside—the Dreadlands—to loot and terrorize whatever small pockets of civilization remain.

But underneath the Dreadlands, a collection of scientific and military personnel hold on to a series of bunkers and underground labs. In them new sources of energy, and new types of crops that can grow in the diseased soil of Earth are being created. If they succeed, Earth might rise again. Oh, and one other thing: they’ve inadvertently discovered the secret of time travel…

When the nomads break through their defenses, they attempt to escape by going forward six months in time to when the nomads will have left. But a blast from the fighting sends them to a time they had never planned on.
