Nexus the Liberator
(Dark Horse, 1992)
™ and ©1992 Dark Horse Comics, Inc.
Horatio Hellpop is Nexus, a man who received awesome super-powers from an alien intelligence with the condition that he act as an executioner of tyrants. The first to die by his hand was his own father, who previously had destroyed their homeworld. Later, the names of those he was to kill would be sent to Nexus in dreams, by the alien who gave Nexus his powers.
In this four-issue mini-series from Dark Horse (originally begun at ill-fated First Comics), Nexus is sent to kill the Holy Gigo, ruler of the world Uyl. These tyrants have reigned as if by divine right for 3,000 years, tolerating no dissent, and keeping eighty percent of the population in abject poverty. Speaking against them was more than illegal, it was a sin—and a death warrant. And when rebellion did arise, it was put down in the most terrifying way: by contaminating the water supply with a chemical which prevents dreaming and brings on psychosis.
