Hospice: No Freedom in Texas
(Orange Cone, 2023)
Rising Suns Hospice is found in every country in the world. Its purpose, like every hospice, is to help those who need it to crossover to the other side. However, this hospice specializes in a special kind of crossing over. When someone who has been evil in life is in the final days, they come to Rising Suns Hospice to help with final transitions. These evil men and women have many times become possessed by a demon in life. The demon stays in the human, and it incubates and grows as the person does evil deeds. When the evil person's life ends, the two switch place and one crosses over to the spiritual realm and the demon crosses over to the physical realm.
This tale follows Mia and Ignacio, Mexican immigrants, as they embark on a journey to Texas, accompanied by their newborn, driven by the aspiration and desire for a better future for their child. However, the GOOD OLD BOYS OF TEXAS stand in stark opposition, and they have put it upon themselves to make sure they don't have any illegals in the great state of TEXAS. This forces Mia and Ignacio to seek refuge in the shelter of Rising Suns Hospice. Here, they find that the challenges they faced from external forces may pale in comparison to the ones lurking within the confines of the hospice. Who is the real monster?
