Spider-Man: The Lost Years

Originally a minor plot device from Amazing Spider-Man #149–151, the Jackal’s clone of Peter Parker was believed killed, disposed of down a smokestack, not to be seen again by comic fans for twenty-five years. In 1995, however, Marvel “revealed” that the clone had not died at all, but had in fact woken up on a deserted street. Not wanting to interfere with Parker’s life, and hating the fact that he was just a clone, he took the name Ben Reilly (to honor his departed uncle) and began traveling the country in an effort to clear his mind and find purpose in his life.

The Lost Years is the story of what happened during those years. It told of how Reilly could never really give up fighting crime because of the age-old adage that “With great power comes great responsibility.” He finds himself in Salt Lake City, where he thinks he might be able to be happy—until he gets mixed up fighting a crime boss, and the other clone, Kaine, arrives for a final showdown…
