Deep Fried (Vol. 2)

Yungbluth’s first Deep Fried series was seen by few. But those few either found this comic’s scathing satire to be brilliantly wicked or shamelessly demented; no one put this book down without a solid opinion.

So did the year between the first series and this one give Yungbluth a chance to grow, to mellow, to scale back his raw and unapologetic views? Far from it; instead, his views have festered and simmered, and the result is a far more political and possibly even more biting result to start off the new series.

So how does it start off? Ongoing characters Beepo the Clown and his cat sidekick Roadkill head off to Canada to trade pirated MP3 files for some marijuana that’s definitely not for medicinal purposes. Yungbluth’s usual hard–edged wit is there, but what’s puzzling is his seeming disdain of The Great White North, portraying it as a full–blown, modern day communist country, “Torontograd” and all.

No matter, really. Oddities aside, it’s good to see this series return. For anyone looking to be offended and then laugh at it, check this out.
