Let's get this out of the way right off the bat: the last page of the first issue of this seven-issue limited series is worth the price of admission—especially for longtime DC readers.

That said, everything that has been developing in the DC Universe culminates here: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are at odds; Superboy no longer trusts himself to be one of the Teen Titans or even wear the “S”; the Spectre, who no longer has a human host to tether him to the world, is attacking magic-users—including Captain Marvel—with abandon; OMACs have essentially declared war on the Earth's superhuman population; and the Freedom Fighters have run afoul of the Society, who have declared all-out war on the super-hero community. Essentially, the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths universe has gone to hell in a handbasket, and a group of watchers behind a sort of crystal window on reality are not happy. When they take matters into their own hands, everything that’s happened since the previous Crisis is thrown into flux—even as some longstanding anomalies are finally addressed.

Make no mistake about it: Infinite Crisis is easily the comic book event of 2005; it promises and delivers an epic twenty years in the making.
