Halloween Horror
(Eclipse, 1987)
™ and ©1987 Eclipse Comics and the respective creators
To all intents and purposes Seduction of the Innocent (Eclipse) #7, Halloween Horror continues that title’s editorial brief of re-presenting horror stories predating the introduction of the Comics Code. It’s odd that the most horrific elements are to be found in the story dating from 1941, starring Old Mother Hubbard as a witch in what might have been an original Brothers Grimm tale. There is also a sample of Dick Briefer’s sympathetic Frankenstein from his final issue, and some of Jay Disbrow’s last comics artwork, illustrating a predictable Lovecraftesque short. The artistic highlight of the issue is the work of the relatively obscure Lou Cameron whose stylish graphic sensibilities transform a mundane story, infusing it with a suitably gloomy mood.
