Whenever the poor, the destitute, the homeless are threatened, the Captain shows up to right the wrongs. The problem is, the mysterious Captain Tupelo is typically in the same straits as those he struggles to protect: he is hooked on drugs and finds it difficult to set his life aright and to control his potentially destructive super-powers. Set against the backdrop of the New York punk scene and rendered in a style that is reminiscent of Alex Toth’s, Tupelo is an intriguing spin on the super-hero concept. What happens when a super-hero needs to enroll in a detox program? This is intriguing stuff from Slave Labor Graphics, a publisher that always pushes the envelope.
