Hup

©1992 R. Crumb

R. Crumb disappeared from the field of “comix” in 1976, bidding a cheery “So long, folks!” to his fans. Nevertheless, he was back in 1987 with Hup, “The Comic for Modern Guys.” Hup was published sporadically, reaching only issue #4 by 1992. It’s still an interesting title, however, showing a more mature (if studiously cynical) Crumb. The lighter moments are given to Mr. Natural, allowing the strips in which Crumb draws himself to focus their attention on portraying the apparent misery of modern life.
