Yukito Kishiro’s turbulent action/adventure nears its conclusion at light speed. Koyomi and the Barjack army wage war against Tiphares and the Scrapyard while Alita is pitted against an old enemy, her former Motorball opponent Jashugan. Kishiro’s tale achieves the epic scope it has build up to; the gritty battle sequences recall Frank Miller’s penchant for unbridled savagery. Nevertheless, Kishiro hasn’t forgotten the series’ emotional core: A loss is felt whenever a character dies. The blood isn’t for the squeamish; however, it’s never pointless.
