Classic Punisher

Although Frank Castle—the Punisher—first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #129, it wasn’t until Marvel Preview #2 that readers learned the tragic story of his origin. Sadly, Marvel Preview was a black-and-white, adult-oriented magazine, and many readers of mainstream comics missed this, and several of the Punisher’s other early adventures. Years later, when he had become one of Marvel’s most popular characters, these early black-and-white magazine issues were nearly impossible to find.

Marvel’s 1989 release of Classic Punisher gives Punisher fans a second chance. A 64-page deluxe edition, it reprints both the origin story from Marvel Preview and another early episode from Marvel Super Action (Magazine) #1. Aside from their rarity, these stories are noteworthy as some of the hardest-hitting Punisher tales.
