John Marshall’s Matterbaby is a very funny set of strips starring a super-powerful hero who needs to pause regularly for naps and diaper changes. When duty calls, it’s “Mattah baby whoosh whoosh!” and the little tyke flies off to battle evildoers. The series is very much in the same line as The Tick, with laughs coming from the combination of superstrength and toddler-simple solutions. There’s also a good mix of self-referential humor, as well as comedic swipes at the X-Files, Basil Wolverton art, disco, and the purple dinosaur Barney.
