Catholic Comics (Vol. 2)
(Catholic, 1947-1948)
™ and ©1948 Catholic Publications, Inc.
In an alternate universe, Catholic Comics was actually published by EC during the 1950s and featured Graham Ingles and Jack Davis classics like “Oh that Inquisition” and “The Martyrdom of St. Valentine” (with its infamous “bleeding-heart” cover).
Alas, in our reality, it was published, strangely enough, by Catholic Publications, and featured such wholesome fare as Bill Brown of Notre Dame, Fightin’ Father O’Malley, and Betty and Bob (young explorers), interspersed with uplifting features like “The Gospel Page” and lives (but not deaths) of the Saints. Catholic Comics gave up the (holy) ghost in 1949, though the Church continued to publish its message in comic form from time to time over the years.
