FBI Special Agent Dalton Morrell, on the trail of the brutal “Devil’s Haircut” serial killer, has been experiencing vivid nightmares about similar murders throughout history. The catch? All the detectives and law officers in these past crimes were actually Morrell’s ancestors, but in his dreams, the killer also bears the face of a family member.

Haunted by these visions, Dalton comes to believe that the current murders, and all the others through the centuries, have been committed by the same individual. Worse, this entity, after wreaking destruction on generations of Morrells, is now after Dalton’s own family.

Morrell’s confrontation with the serial killer, and his suspicions about the real force behind him, costs Morrell both his family and his job, before sending him plunging headlong into a bizarre world of psychics, demons, and international politics.
