Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham

    (DC, 1999)
™ and ©1999 DC Comics

After an evening at the cinema, young Selina Kyle witnesses the murder of her parents at the hand of a common thug on the streets of Gotham City. Over her parents’ graves, her eyes brimming with tears, Selina swears to avenge their deaths, and when a cat perches atop the tombstone, Selina knows what she must become to inspire fear in the superstitious and cowardly lot of criminals who prey on the innocent.

This Elseworlds project from Doug Moench (Master of Kung Fu) and Jim Balent (Catwoman) turns the tables on the Batman concept, as Catwoman assumes the role of Gotham City’s resident protector and takes on the likes of the maniacal Joker, the raging Killer Croc, the horribly scarred Two-Face, and the murderous…Batman. An intriguing—if somewhat cheesecakey—piece of work from the former Catwoman creative team.
