Merten Korkeajännitys

(Kustannus Oy Williams / Semic, 1971-1980)

Merten Korkeajännitys (“Sea High Tension”) was one of the themed spinoffs of Finland’s Korkeajännitys comic line, published by Semic in the 1970s and 1980s. Just like Aavikon Korkeajännitys (desert adventures) and Ilmojen Korkeajännitys (air combat), this series specialized in naval warfare and sea‑based adventure stories.

Stories drawn largely from British war comics (Fleetway/IPC), featuring naval battles, submarine missions, convoy escorts, and survival tales at sea. Recurring characters like Battler Britton sometimes appeared in crossover stories.

The series gave Finnish readers a steady diet of World War II naval drama, emphasizing strategy, courage, and the dangers of the sea. Together with its sister titles, Merten Korkeajännitys helped cement the Korkeajännitys brand as Finland’s go‑to source for pulp war comics across land, air, and sea.
