Mirim

    (Grande Consórcio Suplementos Nacionais, 1937-1942)

Mirim was a foundational Brazilian children’s comic magazine published in Portuguese by the Grande Consórcio de Suplementos Nacionais. Managed by the same group behind O Globo Juvenil, it was instrumental in introducing American-style comics to the Brazilian market in the pre-war era, long before the dominance of publishers like EBAL.

Content and format was modeled after American Sunday comic supplements, Mirim offered a diverse editorial mix, including:

Imported Comic Strips: Licensed content from major syndicates like King Features.

Action & Humor: Featured iconic characters such as Popeye and The Katzenjammer Kids.

Early Superheroes: The magazine was notable for publishing some of the earliest Brazilian reprints of Mickey Mouse, Batman, and Superman.

Variety Features: The magazine included illustrated stories, educational columns, interactive games, and puzzles.
