Sock Monkey (Tony Millionaire’s…)

    (Dark Horse, 1999)
™ and ©1999 Tony Millionaire

Remember those sock monkeys? Homemade stuffed animals from your youth? Well, Tony Millionaire has brought a bit of that youth into the 1990s with an animated and jovial sock-monkey adventurer. Sock Monkey (dubbed Uncle Gabby) and his restless companion, the Crow, live in a world where toys sing and play while people are away. A thoroughly odd and puzzling comic since Uncle Gabby and Crow speak with intelligence but display none of that intelligence in their actions. The art has a minimalist tone and the plots could benefit from more character definition, but readers who enjoy bizarre and offbeat humor will be singing its virtues to the masses. Then again, some readers will be questioning the need for a second volume.
