War Report
(Farrell, 1952-1953)
™ and ©1952 Farrell
“The cards were stacked just like the commies wanted them…they had numbers, equipment, terrain. Finally, even darkness…All on their side. But there wasn’t anything they could pull out of the deck that was good enough to beat Charlie Company’s Two of a Kind!” In 1952, when War Report graced the nation’s comic racks, the Korean War was front-page news and tales like the one above were enough to fire the imagination of any red-blooded American kid itching to make war hell for those dirty yellow commie bums. Not surprisingly, the congressional inquiry into the damaging effects of comics on America’s youth that was going on during those years conveniently omitted most war comics—even the most simple-mindedly violent and gory, like War Report—from their investigating agenda.
