The cover slogan for this sci-fi anthology is “sex and survival among the stars!” with a little more emphasis on the sex than survival. In the lead story, an orphaned young woman comes of age on an hostile alien planet, with only her cyborg companion to sate her carnal desires. When the opportunity for rescue finally arrives, will she choose metal and plastic over human flesh? In the second tale, another woman’s struggle against savage alien creatures, with power over her mind and perceptions, ends up costing her one chance for salvation. Lastly, in a harsh universe where solid foods are considered extreme contraband, an illegal exchange has an unexpectedly noisy, and aromatic, result.
