Riot Gear
(Triumphant, 1993-1994)
™ and ©1993 Corporate Kingdom Holdings, Inc.
Riot Gear is a force of seven heavily armored beings, formerly in the service of the Realm. They had been loyal soldiers all their lives until they were ordered to kill a member of their own group. Rather than comply, they went renegade, freeing themselves from the computer control that normally bound Riot Gear units like themselves, and battling their way off their ship. Remarkably, they lived to gain their freedom—although the entire Realm is now out for their blood.
Riot Gear was one of several interlocking and “highly collectible” comics published during the great comics boom of 1993. Triumphant went so far as to serialize each issue, in addition to indulging in the other gimmicks of the day: coupon offers, ashcan editions, and so on. It was ultimately a futile effort, however, as the lackluster art and hard-to-follow story made it an easy victim for the inevitable industry shake-out.
