Team 7: Dead Reckoning

This four-issue, 1996 mini-series is the third Team 7 series, and the one which finally explains how the members of a special forces team became the super-heroes Grifter, Backlash, and Deathblow as they are known as today.

The series begins with a fateful last mission for the Team 7 strike force. They had infiltrated into Leningrad and were charged with recovering a scientist working on experimental genetic weapons. As always, they managed to complete their seemingly impossible mission, but in doing so an encounter with a genetically altered being cost team leader John “Topkick” Lynch his right eye. A week later, the team was back in the U.S. where they discovered who it was that had ordered the mission—their old enemy and now new boss Miles Craven. Several of the team immediately rebelled, preferring to dissolve rather than serve under Craven. Team 7 was no more—but Craven’s machinations were just beginning…
