Award winning science-fiction writer George Alec Effington brings his talents to the comic book world with this mini-series. Nonetheless, writing for the comic book medium is a very different animal than the more sedate world of novels. Effington’s wordsmith style of narration may serve him well in novels but in this case, it slows the pace to a snail’s crawl. Science fiction tends to be about the emotional experience of discovering what is true, oftentimes represented by scientific discoveries of great consequence. Many of the best stories describe alternate dimensions with worlds different from our own, where reality is a far cry from what we know. These stories identify a sense of wonder as the finest human emotion. Instead, we are treated to a descent into madness.
