The Dandy Comic Library reprints, in digest form, stories from its older sibling, Dandy Comics. Dandy was one of a pair of legendary British humor comics, the other being, of course, The Beano. Each had run from the late 1930s until the present, and had been a touchstone of British nostalgia for generations.

The first issue of the Dandy Comic Library led off with a story featuring Desperate Dan, perhaps its most famous character. Desperate Dan was loosely modeled on the legendary American cowboy, although he soon took on a British sense of whimsy and the absurd. Of particular note was the ever-present “cow pies” cooked by his Aunt Aggie, complete with horns and tails sticking out of the crust.

Each digest enlarges panels from the original stories, often enough so that a single panel occupies a complete page.
